For 81 years, as a service to its members, the American Association of Teachers of French has organized the National French Contest or Le Grand Concours event to stimulate more students to begin and continue with their study of French, and to recognize and reward individual student and teacher achievement.
In 2013, more than 97,000 students in grades 1 – 12 participated and they earned more than 15,000 national prizes. The National French Contest is recognized as an approved activity of the National Association of Secondary School Principals (see www.principals.org for more details). Le Grand Concours is a 60 minute test that will give you a good idea of how you are performing compared to other students across the country. |
There are seven levels available, as well as different divisions to make sure that students are only ranked against students with similar experience and background. |
To find out more about this exam, please visit the official website of le Grand Concours.
Note: The tests purpose goes far beyond "winning" or receiving national recognition. It provides a solid class activity; it also provides a national "guide" to help teachers determine how their students perform, item by item, based upon major grammatical concepts, reading comprehension, oral comprehension, and cultural topics. |

Pourquoi?Pourquoi pas? Be recognized for the hard work that you've put in in your language classes over the years and set yourself apart from the crowd. Often this is the kind of accolade students may also wish to include on their résumés when applying to college or advanced language programs.

Les NotesResults on this exam do NOT effect the students' grade in their French course, but their participation on the exam does count towards their participation grade for the course. The exam fee has been graciously covered by the School District of Kalispell. Merci beaucoup SD5!

Etudiez? Each level of French has its own specifications. Please visit this site to find out what you must know for your level of French. Students really do not need to study for this exam as it tests knowledge and abilities in French that are presented as part of their course curriculum. Students may wish, however, to review by completing exercises from past National French exams.
